Nic Beckert

Position
Biostatistics fellow
Nic Beckert graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics. Nic is currently a master's student in Public Health at the University of Otago, New Zealand, specialising in biostatistics. Since 2019, he has been working as a research assistant at the University of Otago, where he has honed his skills in R and STATA. His experience includes contributing to systematic reviews on rheumatoid arthritis-and interstitial lung disease, where he played a key role in data analysis and interpretation. Nic’s research interests are centred on medical statistics and clinical epidemiology, emphasizing the integration of the best available evidence from scientific research with clinical expertise and patient values and preferences. As a member of Section for Biostatistics and Evidence-Based Research, Nic is dedicated to enhancing the precision of disease diagnostics and the efficacy of treatment strategies via rigorous statistical methodology. As an integral part of the broader OMERACT initiative, Nic will be focusing on advancing the methodological facets of Core Outcome Set (COS) development and implementation through dedicated research and methodological studies. These efforts span various disease areas, including Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA), Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Osteoarthritis (OA), and Gout. Nic's work involves investigating the suitable and practical application of multivariate meta-analysis approaches to mitigate the effects of outcome reporting bias in systematic reviews. His goal is to contribute to the Parker Institute's mission of enhancing population health by advancing knowledge of disease mechanisms and creating evidence-based treatments.
